![]() September 10, 2007 Hurricane Felix Appeal $50,000 Needed for Restoration
|
Dear Friends of Our Little Roses,
Thanks be to God, Our Little Roses was spared the predicted ferocity of
Hurricane Felix. By the time it got to Honduras (9/4/2007) it was a Category 1
and then reduced to a tropical storm that produced torrential rains and
extensive flooding. The huge downpour inflicted damage to property and buildings
at Our Little Roses in San Pedro Sula as well as to the homes of many OLR
employees. More flooding could come because rivers fed by rains in the mountains
of Santa Barbara and Copan flow into the lowlands and overtake drainage systems
in the city.
Diana Frade, Founder and President of Our Little Roses Ministries reported by email, “The winds and rains caused the roof of Holy Family School building to rise - drenching classrooms, suite area, and the apartments and damaging drywall. Twenty one rooms were affected.”
Conditions within the girls’ home: the water from the flooded road outside the OLR compound flowed inside and rose about two feet along the roadways inside the campus. Water came into the girls’ home, flooded the center patio and covered the hallway floors. Our girls formed a mop brigade as the water receded and cleaned up the mess.
Estimated cost related to the storm is $50,000. On top of the cost of repairs there was the added expenditure of preparation before the anticipated hurricane which included boarding up, concrete fortifications and buying extra supplies of food, medical supplies, and emergency items such as gasoline and tools.
The cost of most goods and services after Felix will rise. We do not have emergency contingencies built into Our Little Roses’ budget. All our funds are raised to support the ministry and every penny is used for that purpose.
That is why we are asking for your help to meet the cost of restoring to normal the lives of our girls, staff and neighbors we help in our community. Seven of our employees have suffered the effects of flooding. These faithful persons are in desperate need of cleaning supplies, mattresses, sheets, water and other emergency items. Their low wages make it impossible for them to deal with this type of emergency without help.
As many of you know, who have visited Our Little Roses, we live next to two neighborhoods. Right next to us are very poor people who live in make-shift structures. Many of their homes suffered severe damage. People living in sturdier built houses in the better neighborhoods around us also suffered losses. They too need the help we can offer through your generosity.
We are thankful to God that our “Roses” and Honduras as a whole were spared a major disaster but we are so very much aware of the devastating effects that the flooding and fierce winds caused.
Please send your tax deductible funds to Our Little Roses, P.O. Box 464, Somerset, VA 22972 with notation, Hurricane Relief. These funds will be wired to Our Little Roses’ bank in San Pedro Sula. Honduras.
Faithfully in His Holy Name,

Bishop Leo Frade + Beverley Allison
