2020 Lenten Meditations – Friday, March 6th
Psalm 82:3-4
“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
Lent is a season to be reminded of the central message of the Bible for us. This Holy Season of Lent reminds us that we are placed on this planet not as simple tourist but as permanent residents with a mandate to serve and care for the weak and the needy, to care for orphans, the poor and the oppressed. We could wear our ashes on our foreheads all day long, we could fast and light as many candles that we can find but if we don’t serve the “least of these”, the poor, the orphans, the children that are deprived around the world, if we don’t do something to transform their lives then all of our fasting and ashes are just decorations with little value.
We are given an opportunity during Lent to do something meaningful through our gifts for the many girls that we serve day after day at Our Little Roses in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Please join me in upholding the cause of the poor and rescue the weak and the needy. Girls are vulnerable and we are called to do something to deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
