2021 Lenten Meditations – Friday, March 12th
Luke 4:24-27
24 “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown. 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”
Nobody is a prophet in his own land. It is an expression that sadly is real. When we project ourselves in our places of origin, people do not see beyond their eyes, they do not see more than an ordinary person who was born, grew up, and lived with them, but find it very hard to believe that they can do amazing or admirable things.
Jesus, Elijah, and Elisha ultimately have something in common: people who were not from their hometown accepted them more. The healings and miracles were more than admirable. And the people believed in God.
You, brothers and sisters, may be only but one person in your hometown, but God has allowed you to be someone important in the lives of the girls and young people in another country; A long time ago, or even just a few years ago, a trip to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, allowed you to get to know Our Little Roses Ministries, and that experience changed the way you see your life and how God could work through you. You have become an instrument of salvation and improvement for each of our little ‘roses’. God knew where to send you to be his instrument and bring the good news.

24 Pues bien, les aseguro que a ningún profeta lo aceptan en su propia tierra.
25 No cabe duda de que, en tiempos de Elías, cuando el cielo se cerró por tres años y medio, de manera que hubo una gran hambre en toda la tierra, muchas viudas vivían en Israel.
26 Sin embargo, Elías no fue enviado a ninguna de ellas, sino a una viuda de Sarepta, en los alrededores de Sidón.
27 Así mismo, había en Israel muchos enfermos de lepra en tiempos del profeta Eliseo, pero ninguno de ellos fue sanado, sino Naamán el sirio».
Nadie es profeta en su propia tierra. Es una expresión que tristemente es real. Cuando nos proyectamos en nuestros lugares de origen, la gente no ve más allá de sus ojos, no ve más que una persona común que ha nacido, crecido y vivido con ellos, pero que cuesta mucho creer que puedan hacer cosas asombrosas o dignas de admiración.
Jesús, Elías y Eliseo al final tienen algo en común: tuvieron más aceptación con gente que no era de su pueblo. Las sanidades y los milagros fueron más que admirables. Y la gente creyó en Dios.
Tú, hermano y hermana donde vives eres uno más, pero Dios te ha permitido ser alguien importante en la vida de niñas y jóvenes en otro país; hace mucho o hace pocos años un viaje a San Pedro Sula, Honduras, te permitió conocer los Ministerios Nuestras Pequeñas Rosas, y esa experiencia, cambió tu manera de ver tu vida y de cómo Dios podía obrar por medio de ti.
Y te has convertido en un instrumento de salvación y superación para nuestras pequeñas rosas. Dios supo dónde enviarte para ser su profeta y llevar la buena nueva.
