How to Celebrate Giving Tuesday with OLR

This time of year is all about thinking of others, offering thanks to everything you have, and giving back to the communities around you. In the spirit of Thanksgiving and the holiday season in general, we’re here to talk about Giving Tuesday and how child sponsorship programs like Our Little Roses celebrate this opportunity, particularly this year.

But before we can begin to tell you all about how child sponsorship programs like Our Little Roses celebrate Giving Tuesday, it’s best to explain what Giving Tuesday is in general.

What is Giving Tuesday?

This year, Giving Tuesday falls on November 30 and is celebrated yearly on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and two of the biggest shopping holidays of the year – Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It is a celebration that is well known amongst non-profit organizations and charities alike because it is a day to inspire global giving. As the official Giving Tuesday website states, “GivingTuesday is an opportunity for people around the world to come together through generosity in all its forms by sharing acts of kindness and giving their voice, time, money, goods, and advocacy to support communities and causes.”

Giving Tuesday is a nine-year-old tradition founded  by the United Nations Foundation and New York’s 92nd Street Y.  In 2019, an organization called GivingTuesday was born from the initial idea created in 2012, and nowadays, the official GivingTuesday organization is operated by CEO Asha Curran.

The day of Giving Tuesday is designed to promote awareness and create conversations all about the need for selflessness, altruism, and generosity. Giving Tuesday isn’t about giving to anyone in particular, rather it’s about giving in general – whether that’s your time, your skills, energy, or donations, it’s all about giving back after two major shopping holidays.

On Giving Tuesday, non-profit organizations are presented with an opportunity to emphasize how powerful donations can be and remind people that their donations make a world of difference. Charities and child sponsorship program providers can take Giving Tuesday as a moment to highlight their mission statements, educate the public on the purpose behind their organization, and spread the word about the work they are doing.

The exact steps that charities take on Giving Tuesday will be specific to each organization, meaning there’s no wrong way for child sponsorship programs like Our Little Roses and other non-profit organizations to participate in Giving Tuesday. For instance, Our Little Roses focuses on reducing poverty in Honduras and providing necessities to impoverished girls.

How Child Sponsorship Programs Like Our Little Roses Work to Break the Poverty Cycle

At Our Little Roses, this year’s theme for Giving Tuesday is “Empower and Inspire Her To Be All She Can Be.” With this mantra in mind and at the forefront of everything we do, we’re taking Giving Tuesday as an opportunity to dive deeper into our mission of empowerment by explaining how we work to break the cycle of poverty that has been so alive and well in Honduras for the longest time.

Poverty is a circumstance that impacts generations for years. As all cycles, the cycle of poverty is hard to break. But at Our Little Roses, we are determined, committed, and driven. Instead of letting ourselves feel defeated by how deep poverty runs, we view the problem as a situation with many solutions.

We start by empowering young girls living in impoverished areas all throughout Honduras. But we don’t stop with the children. In addition to empowering girls and giving them hope for a better life, we contribute to the community by way of our medical clinic, dental services, retreat center, and educational opportunities that are all implemented within the community of San Pedro Sula.

But we wouldn’t be able to do all that we do without the altruistic generosity of people like you! Our donors and sponsors alike contribute massively to our cause, making it possible for us to continue to break the cycle of poverty in Honduras.

How to Celebrate Giving Tuesday with Our Little Roses

This year, Our Little Roses is celebrating Giving Tuesday with the hashtag, #EmpowHer. We invite you to join our founder, Dr. Diana Frade, in the process of empowering the girls at Our Little Roses on Giving Tuesday itself, November 30, 2021.

Since our mission is to uplift girls in Honduras and empower them to believe in a world where all of their dreams can come true on a daily basis, we figured there’s no better theme to focus on for Giving Tuesday than the idea of empowering women. The best part is that anyone can participate in our Giving Tuesday fundraising initiatives and discussion because we’ll be streaming them live on Facebook

You’ll not only hear from our Founder, but you’ll also hear from Executive Assistant, Mayra Arguelles,  and for the first time ever on Facebook Live four  scholars who live at our OLR R.E.S.T Center in Honduras will also be joining the discussion.

It’s an excellent opportunity to hear directly from Honduran girls whose lives have been significantly improved with the assistance, love, care, and support of our staff members at Our Little Roses in Honduras. If you’re eager to help us #EmpowHer this Giving Tuesday and every single day thereafter, be sure to participate in our Facebook Live event on November 30.
